Large-format scanning for drawings, plans and maps

DTI scans oversized drawings, blueprints, maps and engineering plans of any size, and indexes them by project, sheet or revision so people can find the right drawing later. The work is done in our secured Greensboro facility.

  • Drawings of any size
  • Indexed by project, sheet or revision

What we scan

Construction drawings and as-builts

Job drawings, shop drawings and as-builts, organized by project so the team can find a sheet without digging through flat files.

Engineering and architectural plans

Plan sets indexed by project, sheet number and revision, so the current version is easy to tell from the old ones.

Maps, plats and surveys

Oversized maps and survey documents for municipalities, utilities and land records.

Older and worn drawings

Rolled, worn or brittle sheets that people have stopped pulling because they're afraid of damaging them.

How drawings get indexed

Before production starts, we agree on how the drawings will be indexed, such as project or job, sheet number, discipline, revision and date, so people can find the right sheet later. Then we check the work against that index before delivery.

Many drawing projects come with regular records too, such as specifications, submittals and correspondence. We can scan both in the same project.

  • Index fields agreed before production
  • A final quality check before delivery
  • Delivered to SharePoint, network folders or your document system

Security and chain of custody

Drawings often show building layouts and infrastructure details. They're handled under the same controls as every other record we scan. Pickup and transportation are coordinated by DTI and shown as their own line item in your quote.

  • Background-checked staff
  • A secured facility with biometric access to computers and storage rooms
  • Segmented storage based on each project's security requirements
  • Chain-of-custody logs from pickup through return or destruction
  • Encrypted delivery of the finished files

Questions about large-format scanning

What is large-format scanning?

Large-format scanning converts oversized documents, such as engineering drawings, blueprints, maps and plans, into digital files using scanners built for wide sheets. Standard document scanners can't handle these sizes.

How large a drawing can you scan?

Any size. Tell us the sheet sizes and roughly how many there are, and we'll plan the work around them.

Can you scan rolled or worn drawings?

Usually, yes. Tell us how the drawings are stored and what condition they're in, and we'll look at a sample before quoting.

What format will the scanned drawings be in?

Tell us how the drawings will be used, and we'll agree on the file format and resolution before production starts.

Can you scan drawings and regular documents in the same project?

Yes. Many projects include both. We plan the indexing so drawings and documents for the same project can be found together.

Tell us about the drawings you need scanned

A rough sheet count, the sizes and how people need to find them are enough to start. We'll tell you what a realistic schedule looks like.
